Stavanger Brass Band is gearing up for an exciting role at the 46th European Brass Band Championships (EBBC) 2025, held right here in our home city of Stavanger from May 3rd to May 11th. As proud hosts, we’re thrilled to showcase our talents at two major events: the Gala Concert, Echoes of the Fjord, and the finals of the European Conductors Competition, both taking place at the magnificent Stavanger Konserthus. These performances mark a special moment for us, and we can’t wait to share them with brass enthusiasts from across Europe and beyond!
Gala concert: Echoes of the Fjord
On Saturday, May 10th, we’ll take the stage in the Fartein Valen hall for the Gala Concert, joined by the exceptional European Youth Brass Band (EYBB). Titled Echoes of the Fjord, this concert will be a celebration of Norwegian folk music with a bold brass twist. Audiences can look forward to dynamic arrangements of traditional tunes by folk icons Ole Paus and Lillebjørn Nilsen, alongside innovative works by Norwegian composers Espen Westbye, Kjetil Djønne, Magnus Brandseth, and Fredrick Schjelderup.
Adding a special touch, we’re delighted to feature August Schieldrop, a brilliant young Norwegian tuba soloist, whose performance promises to be a standout moment. Following a day of competition – including the Challenge Section and the Championship Section’s own-choice pieces – this concert will culminate in the announcement of the 2025 European Champions, making it a night to remember.
European conductors competition finals
Earlier in the week, on Thursday, May 8th, we’ll also play a key role in the finals of the 8th European Conductors Competition, held in the Kuppelhallen at Stavanger Konserthus. This prestigious event, running from May 4th to May 8th, will see top emerging conductors from across Europe vying for the title, and we’re honored to be the band bringing their final performances to life. It’s a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with the next generation of musical leaders, and we’re excited to contribute our sound to this inspiring showcase of talent.
Our legacy at Stavanger Brass Band
For us, hosting and performing at EBBC 2025 is a proud continuation of our rich history. Stavanger Brass Band was founded in 1981 by Kjell Elias Larsen, but our debut at the Norwegian National Championships that year was a disaster, ending dead last.
Frustrated, Larsen dismissed the entire band, only to relaunch it by inviting back the musicians he believed in. This bold reset sparked a golden era, with the band storming to victories at the national championships in 1982, 1984, 1986, and 1988 under his leadership, establishing us as one of Norway’s top brass ensembles.
Today, we’re eager to build on this legacy by performing at EBBC 2025 and showcasing Stavanger’s vibrant musical culture to an international audience.
Join us in Stavanger
Both the Gala Concert and the Conductors Competition finals will be streamed live via our partners at World of Brass, ensuring fans worldwide can experience the magic. For those joining us in person, tickets are available through the Stavanger Konserthus website. While the main event, the competition itself, was sold out in minutes after the ticket sales opened, there are still tickets available for the other events taking place.
The Echoes of the Fjord Gala Concert and the Conductors Competition finals are just two highlights of a week packed with exceptional brass music, and we’re proud to be at the heart of it all.
At Stavanger Brass Band, this is more than an event – it’s a celebration of our heritage, our passion, and our community. We can’t wait to welcome you to Stavanger Konserthus and share these unforgettable moments with you.
